R. S. Brown, Jr., pastor

Pastor Richard S. Brown, Jr. has served as pastor of the Payne Avenue Missionary Baptist Church in Knoxville, TN since October, 1996. Before coming to Payne Avenue, he served as pastor of the St. John Baptist Church in Knoxville for eight years. Pastor Brown is third generation preacher following in the footsteps of both his grandfather and father. He served as assistant to his father Pastor R. S. Brown, Sr., at Bethel Baptist Church in Alcoa, TN. He has also worked as a Control Analyst for the Tennesee Valley Authority, Knoxville, TN. Pastor Brown was born in Birmingham, AL. After the family moved to Alcoa, TN in 1974, he completed secondary education in the Alcoa School System. Pastor Brown holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Business Administration from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He has also done course work at Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN. 


Pastor Brown is married to Kirktenia, and they are the parents of three children: Christina, Jessica, and Richard, III.

Min. Anthony Rodgers, in February of 2007, publicly announced at Payne Avenue Missionary Baptist Church, his calling into the ministry. He preached his first sermon in 2008. He is a lifetime resident of Knoxville, Tennessee. He is married to Johnnie Rodgers, and they have two children, Komeisha and Iiran Rodgers. Associate  Minister

Min. Kirktenia Walton Brown is a native of Talbotton, GA; she attended Wesleyan College in Macon, GA and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Communications.  She is active in Payne Avenue as a leader of the Women's Ministry; teen girls Sunday School teacher.  She accepted the call to preach the Gospel in November, 2013.  She preached her trial sermon in May, 2015 and has shared her Gospel message throughout East Tennessee; with the Knoxville District and taught in the East Region Conference.
